Label founded in Brooklyn, New York, by Solly
Abrams in 1946, lasting through 1950. Most of its
400 series releases were by Brownie McGhee; the
600 series was devoted to gospel. The 200 series released urban blues, including jump blues. Champion
Jack Dupree was one of Alert’s recording artists.
