As darkness fell over the continent, the Sky Queen streaked across western Canada, through the star-studded night skies.
Colonel Eagle Friend was seated in the pilot’s compartment with the young people.
“Hope you won’t mind my calling you Eagle Eye,” remarked Bud.
“Not at all,” chuckled the Indian. “My full name is a bit long.”
Just then Phyl said, “Hey! Sounds as if something’s going on down in the cargo space!”
Tom snapped an intercom switch. Instantly the loudspeaker blared out a bloodcurdling noise of dogs howling, yapping, and snarling!
The Indian leaped up. “The huskies!” he exclaimed. “At least one of them must have broken loose-maybe more! Dogs sometimes go berserk in planes and kill anything in sight!”

A CALL FROM WASHINGTON
THE UPROAR of the angry huskies was deafening! Quickly Colonel Eagle Friend scrambled down the steel-runged ladder leading to the first deck.
Tom snapped off the intercom and set the ship on automatic pilot. Then he and the others hurried to join the Indian outside the cargo compartment.
“Good night!” shuddered Sandy, putting her hands to her ears. “It sounds as if the dogs are killing one another!”
The colonel, who also was a trained veterinarian, was taking something out of his medical kit.
“What are you going to do?” Bud asked.
“Those are fine dogs,” Eagle Friend replied. “I don’t want to shoot any of them unless I have to. So I’ll try this first.” He held up a can of chloroform so they could read the label, then loosened the cap.
