Scottish poet. He wrote many nature poems and poems of religious reflection. His
first book of verse, Songs of Night 1910, was published privately. He reached a
public with his seventh, Winter Harvest, in 1933. ‘Into Hades’ 1952, a long poem
about the soul entering death, became the first part of Out of the World and Back
1958. He also wrote prose works on flowers and topography.
