Polish novelist. An intense nationalist, with a keen sense of social injustice, he used
his descriptive powers to shock and provoke reaction. Among his works are the novel
Popioly/Ashes 1904, a historic panorama from the Napoleonic era; Dzieje grzechu/A
Story of Sin 1908; and Przedwiosnie/Before Spring 1925. He also wrote short stories
and plays.
