ACE (UNITED STATES). Encyclopedia of Blues

Jackson, Mississippi, label founded in 1955 by Johnny
Vincent, who held nearly all of his recording sessions in
New Orleans, especially at Cosimo Matassa’s recording
studio. Hits include Huey ‘‘Piano’’ Smith’s ‘‘Rocking
Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu’’ and Frankie
Ford’s ‘‘Sea Cruise.’’ Releases slowed to a trickle after
the mid-1960s, but in 1971 Vincent reactivated it to
reissue classic performances and some new material.
