Appleton, Victor – Tom Swift Jr 22 – And His Repelatron Skyway

“The men plan to tamper with the transmitters in such a way that your highway will collapse as soon as it is put into use,” the professor ex^ plained. “They hope the road will then be condemned and the Swifts’ reputation ruined.”

168 REPELATRON SKYWAY

“Of all the low-down tricks!” Bud exploded.

“Wait a minute! They can’t sabotage the trans-mittersl” Tom said. “The protective plant-and-animal repelatrons will prevent them from getting close enough to do anything.”

Professor Eldreth quickly dashed Tom’s hopes. “I was told that someone in your own group will provide the raiders with a remote-control device which you use to turn the repelatrons on or off for maintenance work.”

“Must be Auber or Creel!” Bud cried out.

Tom paced back and forth. “If only I could communicate with the Sky Queen!” he exclaimed.

“I have a two-way radio set,” Eldreth said. “The men who came here brought one so they could contact me at any time.”

The boys were jubilant. Tom quickly radioed the Queen at Imbolu and ordered a Swift pilot, Slim Davis, to take off in the skywriting graphicopter. “The raiders probably will be using lights,” Tom said. “If you see them, point out the spot with an arrow in the sky.”

“Now what?” Bud asked, after Tom signed off.

The young inventor grinned. “Ever hear of tanks on the hoof?”

“Wow! I get it-a dinosaur blitzkrieg!”

Professor Eldreth agreed to lend Tom several of his dinosaurs, provided that he and his servant accompany the boys. Tom and Bud found it hard to mount the beasts, but Mbonga showed them how. They took off, driving a small herd of the 170 REPELATRON SKYWAY
